Delaware Names Muth, Sloan, McQuade Co-Captains
NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware senior lacrosse players Katie Muth, Debbie Sloan, and Stephanie McQuade have been named co-captains of the 2008 Blue Hen women's lacrosse squad, head coach Kim Ciarrocca announced.
The three are among 17 letterwinners who return from last year's nationally-ranked team that posted a record of 11-6, placed third in the Colonial Athletic Association standings, and advanced to the CAA semifinals. Muth and McQuade also served as team co-captains last season.
The Blue Hens will open the 2008 season February 28 at home vs. Rutgers at Rullo Stadium.
Muth, a senior midfielder from Ellicott City, MD (Seton Keough High School), returns for her fifth season of competition this spring after earning first team All-Mid Atlantic Region and second team All-CAA honors in 2007. An honor student as a sport management major with a minor in leadership, she was the team's second leading scorer in 2007 when she scored 37 goals and dished out 13 assists. She is Delaware's active career scoring leader with 82 goals and 26 assists and also has recorded 81 groundballs during her career.
Sloan, a junior attack from Thornton, PA (West Chester East High School), earned second team All-Mid Atlantic Region and second team All-CAA honors in 2007 when she scored 36 goals and dished out 11 assists, recorded 22 groundballs, and led the team with 33 draw controls. An honor student as a business marketing major, she earned CAA All-Rookie honors in 2006 when she had 14 goals and nine assists.
McQuade, a senior defender from Doylestown, PA (Central Bucks West High School), also returns for her fifth year of competition after missing all but two games last year with an injury. A three-year letterwinner, she has played in 37 games with 18 starts in her career and contributed 11 goals, three assists, and 34 groundballs. A health and physical education major at Delaware, she is a two-time member of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
