I'm not a frequent flyer when it comes to the lacrosse boards out there, but I've been an administrator, and a moderator, as well as a board member of several military themed forums over the past couple of years, and by far TLF is the most strict I've ever seen. The sophisticated warning mechanisms, the overestablished rules structure, its very limiting when it comes to freedom of posting. I'm all for having regulation to ensure good, quality discussion, but I'm not sure that isn't overdoing it a bit.

However, that is the price you pay to post on what appears to be a very large lacrosse board. Who knows, in time it may lose its power base, but right now I don't see that happening anytime soon...

Headed by Inside Lacrosse, which means mods do what IL wants.(as well as their sponsors) You know, that whole sponsorship thing (maybe not, actually). IL also chooses the colors. Not the most pleasing, but it's better than having 20 ads on every page and whatever the heck you consider the color scheme here.

Honestly, it really takes a complete idiot to get banned over there. If you're not obnoxious, you won't rack up points. If you like to go around and insult people like a 14 year old who has yet to go through puberty, then yes, you probably will be banned and most of the members are probably thankful for it. It's not that difficult, if you're seriously having problems on TLF with warning points, you might want to start investing in a therapist now, because you're never going to make it out in the real world and you'll need someone to listen to your pathetic problems of getting banned.

And guys, not to continue being a butt or anything, but CLEARLY the warning system isn't hurting that much. They have many, many members and one or two banned isn't going to make that much of a difference.

Really, mean-spirited? Did they tell you not to do something and you flipped out or something? I have yet to see a mod totally flip. They're straight forward and brutally honest, but the only time you can tell their tone changes is when some poster decides to take it to the next level. Everything is written out, it's not a hard concept to follow. You violate the rules, you'll get a warning. Mods just enforce them, they don't create the rules.

As for control freaks, once again, go back to that whole sponsoring thing which you must not understand. IL doesn't want to forums to end up like the Brine Boards or like others. They would prefer that anyone be able to go on to the boards and be comfortable. I don't really think that's asking too much. All of the other rules try to keep the board clean and not waste space.

For real, what did you get banned for that's got you this pissed at the mods and system?

Didn't we have TLF mods come here and spam at one point ?

I am happy with this forum. It's doing its thing and growing with a good core group of moderators and users. Lacrosseforum is an alternative option to another forum, no biggy. We are happy if people come and post here

This thread is about people being more active mind you, not TLF dislike. Maybe that can make for another thread

I can understand regulating what is posted on a site, especially when a company has put its name out there to sponsor said forum. That company has now assumed a risk associated with whatever is posted on that forum.

From what I've seen, the majority of the folks over there take their roles as moderators/administrators serious, and see themselves as community leaders. The issue is probably biggest with a small, select few who act as if, due to their position, they are able to make snap judgements and dole out punishments for things that are at best borderline infractions, without even acknowledging the people they warn when asked why the strong response to something so seemingly small.

Let me quantify this by saying that I am not banned from TLF, and frequently use the trading forums. I have received 1 alert for a sig line infraction, and 1 9 point warning. My requests for clarification of exactly why it was deemed a 9 point infraction instead of what I thought at most would have been in the 1 point category went completely ignored by the issueing mod.

I'm all for controlled, regulated forums, as long as the moderation doesn't exceed the ability to have good, plentiful conversation, and doesn't make people afraid to post because they are unsure of what is allowable language.
