Default Jax Sign Draft Pick Jacobs

The Portland Lumber Jax have signed rookie forward Peter Jacobs to a two-year agreement, as was announced today by Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan.

Jacobs was a second round selection (No. 24 overall) by the Jax in the 2007 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft. He played with the Akwesasne Indians of Major Series Lacrosse's Jr. A League this past season, finishing second on the team with 46 points (27 goals and 19 assists).

"At 19 years old, Peter was the youngest player selected in this year's entry draft," said Keenan. "We were looking for some depth offensively on the left side and we think Peter will provide that. In time Peter will be a top notch NLL player."

Default Roughnecks re-enlist tough guys

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks two policemen will be back on the beat for the 2008 season.

"We are glad to have Ryan back for another year," said Silcott. "He's as fit as ever and we expect him to be a punishing defender in our new system.

"He is one of the few legitimate tough guys left in the game today and it's nice for the guys to know that if anyone takes liberties, Ryan is there to back them up."

Moleski, 25, like McNish, started playing for the Riggers in 2005.

Moleski is 6 ft. 1 in. and tops the scales at 205 lbs. Away from lacrosse, he is a sawmill chargehand in Prince George, British Columbia.

Default Jax Re-sign Powell

PORTLAND, November 20, 2007 - The Portland LumberJax have re-signed forward Ryan Powell to a one-year contract, as was announced today by Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan.

Before he became a star of indoor lacrosse, Powell honed his pro game outdoors as he became a two-time Most Valuable Player in Major League Lacrosse. The West Carthage, New York native was the first player in MLL history to earn both the Offensive Player of the Year and Bud Light MVP awards in the same season.

"The transition Ryan made from the outdoor game to the indoor has been a key component to his development," said Keenan. "He's really learned how to play indoors. With some of the guys we have added this season, he will perform even better."

Powell was one of five National Lacrosse League All-Stars for the Jax in 2007 during his 23 goal, 31 assist and 54 point season. It was Powell's first All-Star nomination and he did not disappoint the record 12,856 lacrosse fans at the Rose Garden as he scored four goals.

The former three-time, First-Team All-American and Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award winner at Syracuse University will enter his third season with the Jax in 2008. Overall, Powell is second in team history in goals scored (35), first all-time in assists (57) and second all-time in points scored (92). Powell also holds the distinction of scoring at least one point in every game he's appeared with the Jax.

"This is the fourth year I will have Ryan and I can really depend on him," said Keenan. "He was part of the core that we started the franchise with and his overall performance speaks for itself."
