Rochester Knighthawks forward Mat MacLeod has been named the National Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week after recording two goals and one assist in the Knighthawks' 20-12 win over the Philadelphia Wings on March 29th. The award is the first of MacLeod's young career.
The Knighthawks picked MacLeod (Orangeville, Ontario) with the eighth overall selection in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft. MacLeod recorded 74 goals and 102 assists in 62 games in three seasons with the Orangeville Northmen. In 2007, he finished fifth in the Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior "A" with 65 points (30+35) in 18 games. In the playoffs, he was also fifth with 23 goals and 15 assists in 15 games as the Northmen advanced to the OLA Junior "A" Finals.

Rush Duo Named in NLL's Weekly Honours
For the second time this season, the Edmonton Rush have had two players named to the National Lacrosse League's weekly honours.
Chris McKay, playing in his first game of the season and first ever game with the Rush, was named the NLL's Transition Player of the Week, while newly named Assistant Captain Rory Glaves was selected as the NLL's Defensive Player of the Week. Both players were instrumental in the Rush's critical 12-5 victory over the San Jose Stealth last Saturday at Rexall Place.
"It was an excellent win for our team and both Chris and Rory were leaders by example on the floor," said Rush GM/Head Coach Bob Hamley. "It was a must-win game for us and they stepped up to play a huge role for us."
McKay was acquired by the Rush during the 2007 NLL Dispersal Draft from the Arizona Sting but did not join the club until last week. Playing for his former coach with the Sting, McKay scooped up 12 loose balls - the Rush's single-game high for the season - and also collected a goal and three assists. McKay's hustle in chasing down loose balls left him one short of the franchise single-game high currently shared by Cam Bergman and Jimmy Quinlan.
McKay's goal gave the Rush a 3-1 lead early in the second quarter and he picked up assists on goals by Mike Hominuck, Lindsay Plunkett and Rory Glaves.
Glaves' goal was not only his first of the season but also the Rush's first shorthanded goal of the year. The tally by Glaves gave the Rush a commanding 10-3 edge with just 2:30 left in the third quarter. Glaves also scooped up four loose balls during the game.
McKay and Glaves are the eighth and ninth recipients of NLL weekly awards in Rush franchise history.
Edmonton has had players named to the NLL weekly awards in three of the past four weeks. Mike Hominuck was named the NLL's Offensive Player of the Week for his three-goal game that included the overtime winner against Rochester, and just one week earlier, Curtis Palidwor was named Defensive Player of the Week and Steve Hutchins was named Rookie of the Week for their roles in a 9-7 road victory at Portland.
McKay is the second Rush player to be named the Transition Player of the Week this season following Jimmy Quinlan.
Previous NLL weekly award winners from the Rush were Chris Gill (2007 - Offensive Player of the Week), Curtis Palidwor (2007 - Defensive Player of the Week), and Pat Campbell (2006 - Defensive Player of the Week).

Nash leads Mammoth to playoff-clinching win
National Lacrosse League All-Star Gee Nash turned in his best performance of the season and the Colorado Mammoth punched its ticket to the postseason with an 11-8 victory over the Rochester Knighthawks on Thursday night.
A Pepsi Center crowd of 16,860 grew louder and more appreciative with each of Nash's 46 saves, as the former NLL goaltender of the year held the high-powered Knighthawks to their lowest goal output of 2008.
"What can you say? Gee was on his game tonight," Mammoth coach Bob McMahon said. "He was seeing the ball well and feeling confident."
Colorado improved to 7-4 overall and 5-2 at home, securing one of four West Division playoff spots on the strength of a remarkably balanced offensive attack. Brian Langtry, Gavin Prout, Jamie Shewchuk and Jason Wulder registered two goals and two assists apiece and Nenad Gajic matched the four-point effort with a goal and three assists.
Rochester's John Grant was typically productive, notching four goals, while Ken Millin added two goals and two assists.
The Mammoth dominated the early stages of the third quarter, as Shewchuk scored twice and Langtry added one in a span of less than two minutes. The Knighthawks got one back late in the quarter to cut the Mammoth advantage to 9-5.
Nash took over in the fourth quarter, making 17 saves to improve to 6-3 on the season. Rochester's Pat O'Toole took the loss in goal, stopping 32-of-43 shots.
After each team scored just once in the first quarter, the offense opened up at both ends of the floor in the second. Wulder scored twice on one-touch shots and Langtry, Prout and Catton each added one. Rochester managed three goals in the quarter and trailed 6-4 at halftime.
Catton's tally was his first of the season. He picked up a loose ball that was jarred away from O'Toole by Prout, dashed down the left side and buried his chance to give the Mammoth a 4-2 lead.
The Mammoth travels to Buffalo for a Saturday showdown against the Bandits on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Mountain time at the HSBC Arena.

Edmonton's Palidwor, New York's Hall Win March Monthly Awards
Edmonton Rush goaltender Curtis Palidwor has been named March's Overall Player of the Month, while New York's Jordan Hall has been named Rookie of the Month.
After the Rush started the season 0-6, Palidwor has been a steadying force between the pipes to help put Edmonton back in the playoff race. Since he was named the team's clear-cut starting goaltender at the start of the month, Palidwor and the Rush are 3-1.
The 35-year-old goalie has played every minute (241) of the last four games, allowing just 35 goals for a stellar 8.71 goals against average in March. He has collected 154 saves, good for an 81.4% save percentage in the month. His rising performance has lifted his season save percentage to 77.9% (3rd in the league) and his goals against average to 10.77 (4th).
Edmonton hosts the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday at Rexall Place.
Hall led all rookies in the month of March in both goals and points, despite his team playing only two games. The 23-year-old transition-man collected five goals, seven assists and 13 loose balls in a pair of wins for the New York Titans, who beat the top two teams in the league (Philadelphia and Toronto) by wide margins in March.
Hall's 51 points (19 goals, 32 assists) is good for 19th in the league and leads all rookies. The University of Delaware grad, who was selected first overall in the 2007 Entry Draft by New York, also has 82 loose balls, which is 14th in the league and leads all rookies by a wide margin.
New York meets the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.
The Monthly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's 12 teams.

Palidwor Clinches NLL's Best For March
Edmonton, AB-- For the first time in franchise history, a member of the Edmonton Rush has claimed the National Lacrosse League's Overall Player of the Month honour.
Goaltender, Curtis Palidwor, claimed the award for his outstanding play during March that saw him capture three wins in four games while providing the Rush with stellar net minding. His performances not only got the Rush out of the doldrums of a winless start to the season, but then lifted the club right into playoff contention in the National Lacrosse League's West Division.
"Curtis has provided us with the kind of clutch goaltending that we needed to get back in the race," said Rush GM/Head Coach Bob Hamley. "He's a veteran who has given us leadership on top of excellent play on the floor. He's done everything we've asked from him plus much more and he absolutely deserves this recognition."
The monthly award follows a NLL Defensive Player of the Week honour that Palidwor earned during March. He picked up his first weekly award of the season and second as a member of the Rush when Edmonton secured a 9-7 victory in Portland. The win was the Rush's first of the year and largely due to a 47-save performance from Palidwor.
The Rush then picked up their second win in a row and second home-floor overtime victory in team history in a 10-9 upset of the defending champion Rochester Knighthawks. Palidwor notched 34 saves in that win and chipped in two assists.
And in the Rush's final game of March, Palidwor racked up 35 saves in a standout defensive performance by the club as they topped the San Jose Stealth 12-5.
Palidwor, who is in his eighth NLL season, currently sits third in the league with a .779 save-percentage while his 10.77 goals-against average ranks him fourth. The New Westminster, B.C., native holds down ninth spot among NLL goalies with 243 saves and he has collected seven assists this season.
