Hamley Makes Major Moves
Edmonton, AB--Edmonton Rush GM/Head Coach Bob Hamley has announced a pair of significant trades aimed at helping the club get back into the National Lacrosse League playoff picture for 2008.
In the first move, the Rush have acquired forward Lindsay Plunkett from the Chicago Shamrox in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft. In the second move, the Rush have dealt forward A.J. Shannon and a second-round pick in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft to the Minnesota Swarm in exchange for forward Mike Hominuck and a first-round pick in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft.
Plunkett was tied for top spot on the Shamrox' scoring chart alongside former Rush forward Mat Giles. In six games, the 27-year-old native of Peterborough, Ont., has registered 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points along with 27 loose balls. The six-foot-three, 210-pound lefty has three power-play goals and six power-play assists so far this season.
Currently in his seventh NLL season, Plunkett had his best year in the league playing under Hamley with the Arizona Sting in 2007. His 66-point campaign, coming from 31 goals and 35 assists, helped the Sting win the West Division and advance to the Champion's Cup final. Plunkett had previously played for Ottawa and Buffalo before moving on to Arizona and Chicago.
Hominuck, 26, was sixth in Swarm scoring after the lefty had picked up five goals and 16 assists for 21 points along with 35 loose balls. The five-foot-10, 170-pounder from Welland, Ont., is in his fifth year in the NLL with previous stops in Buffalo and Portland.
The key to the Minnesota deal is the Rush acquiring a first-round draft choice after a number of picks had been dealt away in previous trades. The pick surrendered by the Swarm was originally acquired by Minnesota in a trade with Toronto.
Shannon was the top goal-scorer in the Rush line up with 11 goals and his 11 assists had put him third in team scoring. He missed most of last season recovering from off-season knee surgery after being traded by Buffalo to Edmonton.
"Obviously losing a player like AJ is tough and we wish him well, we have gained a couple of players in return that will have immediate impact, as well, we are now back in the 1st round of the 2008 draft which will yield a good young player for our future." states GM/Head Coach Bob Hamley.

Wings Acquire Forward AJ Shannon from Minnesota and Goaltender Brandon Miller from Ch
The Eastern Division leading Philadelphia Wings have acquired left-handed forward A.J. Shannon from the Minnesota Swarm and goaltender Brandon Miller from the Chicago Shamrox according to General Manager Lindsay Sanderson. The acquisitions were part of two trades that sent Wings' forwards Dan Marohl and Keith Cromwell to the Swarm and goaltender Matt Roik and defenseman Brad Self to Chicago.
"AJ Shannon is a proven scorer that will add much needed depth to our offense on the left side," said General Manager Lindsay Sanderson. "In the case of Miller, we had the opportunity to add another number one goalie to our camp and could not pass that up, especially not knowing what will happen with Blazer (Rob Blasdell) since we claimed him from Arizona in the dispersal draft and he would have to return when Arizona resumes play in 2009. The coaching staff and I knew we needed to increase our depth and this move adds two big pieces to the puzzle."
The Swarm traded forward Mike Hominuck and a first round pick in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft to the Edmonton Rush in exchange for Shannon. Minnesota then traded Shannon to the Wings for Cromwell and Marohl.
The Wings traded Roik, defenseman Brad Self, a first round pick in the 2009 Entry Draft, and their second round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft to Chicago in exchange for Miller and the Shamrox second pick in the 2008 Entry Draft. Self has spent the past two seasons on the Wings' hold-out list due to commitments playing hockey in Germany.
Practice squad player Matt Eckerl was also added to the Wings 23-man roster.
Shannon, a fifth-year forward, has scored 22 points (11G, 11A) in seven games in Edmonton this season. In his previous four seasons, three with Buffalo, he scored 112 points (53G, 59A) in 50 games played. The 6', 213-pound Whitby, ON native missed the first ten games of the 2007 season recovering from an off-season knee injury after being acquired by the Rush on June 28, 2006 from the Buffalo Bandits. Shannon, a University of Virginia graduate, led the Cavaliers to the 2003 NCAA Championship in 2003 as well as the 2000 and 2004 ACC Titles.
Miller, has a 71% save percentage and a 17.04 goals against average in seven games for the Shamrox this season. The eighth year goaltender was chosen by Chicago in the 2006 NLL Expansion Draft from San Jose. He has seen 2,031 minutes of career playing time and has 1,282 career saves.
The Wings face the Toronto Rock next Saturday, March 8 at the Wachovia Center at 1 p.m. The matinee contest is dollar dog day with a special post-game photo session with the entire Wings squad on the concourse after the game. Great seats are still available and can be purchased by visiting Official site of the Philadelphia Wings - Wings or at the Wachovia Complex Box Office. Party Packs, which include four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas, are just $68 and are great way to enjoy Wings lacrosse with family and friends. Party Packs are available at wingslax.com or by calling (215) 389-WING (9464).

Minnesota Swarm Acquires Keith Cromwell and Dan Marohl from Philadelphia Wings In Thr
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill today announced the National Lacrosse League (NLL) team has acquired forwards Keith Cromwell and Dan Marohl in a trade involving the Edmonton Rush and the Philadelphia Wings.
The Swarm acquired forward A.J. Shannon and Edmonton's second round selection in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft in exchange for forward Mike Hominuck and a first round selection in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft. Minnesota then traded Shannon to Philadelphia along with a fourth round pick in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft for Cromwell and Marohl. The Swarm also released rookie defenseman Chris Courtney today.
Cromwell, 28 (9/7/79), recorded three assists and six loose balls in two games with the Wings this season. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound native of Manhasset, New York has collected 275 points (94-181=275) and 250 loose balls in 89 career NLL contests. The left-hander was originally acquired by Philadelphia on Oct. 18, 2001 from Buffalo in exchange for the Wings' first round pick in the 2002 NLL Entry Draft. Cromwell graduated from Rutgers University and holds the all-time record for career points and goals at the school. He will wear jersey #7 with the Swarm
Marohl, 29 (3/30/78), notched eight points (1-7=8) and 10 loose balls in two games with Philadelphia this season. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Annapolis, Maryland has recorded 347 points (107-240) and 348 loose balls in 89 career NLL matches. The right-hander ranked second in scoring on the Wings last season with 64 points (20-44=64) and picked up 71 loose balls in 16 games. Marohl graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He will wear jersey #11 with the Swarm.
"Recent injuries have made us question the depth our team had for a serious playoff run this season," said O'Neill. "With Cromwell and Marohl we gain two players with solid NLL experience and players I trust because of our past history. Both guys are gifted offensive talents with size and speed, something you can never have enough of."
"The last two seasons we have entered the playoffs short an offensive starter or two because of injuries," added O'Neill. "This trade will provide our injured players the opportunity to fully recover and allows our team to focus on what is in front of us in the second half of the season."
Great lower level seats can be purchased for each upcoming Swarm home game. Tickets range from $12 - $52 and can be purchased in advance or at the Xcel Energy Center Box Office. Minnesota Swarm to Retire Eric Perkins #66 Jersey on Friday, March 14
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm announced today that Eric Perkins #66 jersey will be retired in a special halftime ceremony on Friday, March 14 when the club hosts the Chicago Shamrox at 7:00 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center. In addition, Eric Perkins bobbleheads will be distributed to the first 5,000 fans in attendance at the game.
Bobbleheads will be distributed to the first 5,000 fans in attendance exclusively at Gate 1, which will open at 5:30 p.m. An additional 100 bobbleheads will be set aside for a "Second Chance" lottery. Once the 5,000 bobbleheads have been distributed, all remaining fans will receive a "Second Chance" lottery ticket with a number. Once per quarter, 25 lottery ticket numbers will be displayed on the video board. Fans may redeem their winning lottery ticket at the Swarm Sales & Service booth near Section 103 to claim their Perkins bobblehead.
"Although I never really made a significant on field contribution, I feel as though my stabilizing influence in the locker room helped galvanize the team and lay a foundation for the success we're seeing so abundantly this year," said Perkins, who made his NLL debut on Jan. 13, 2007 against Chicago - his only pro lacrosse game. The KARE 11 sportscaster has since retired, but has followed the Swarm closely this season through its 6-2 start.
"Eight seconds, yeah maybe, but what many people fail to remember was the selfless two minute contribution I made serving that penalty," Perkins said. "Now that's a true team player."
Minnesota will also retire Perkins #66 jersey in a halftime ceremony on March 14.
"Truly an honor," he explained. "To have my jersey etched indelibly in history and to have my very own bobblehead, both are so rewarding. What I think I'm most proud of though, is that I will forever in the National Lacrosse League statistical record books."
Great lower level seats can be purchased for each upcoming Swarm home game. Tickets start at $11.00 and can be purchased in advance or at the Xcel Energy Center Box Office. Family packs and student discounts are also available. Contact Ticketmaster at 651-989-5151 or Tickets for Concerts, Sports, Arts, Theater, Family, Events, more. Weather Forces Wings To Postpone Game Against Rock At Wachovia Center On March 8
Due to severe weather conditions in Toronto, Ontario, the Philadelphia Wings' opponent, the Toronto Rock, are unable to depart Toronto via flights to Philadelphia, forcing the National Lacrosse League to postpone the game featuring the two teams at the Wachovia Center on Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m., according to team President Russ Cline. The game will be rescheduled at a later date with an announcement of this new date expected on Monday, March 10.
"It's unfortunate that we have to postpone the game," said Cline. "It's virtually impossible for the Rock to arrive in Philadelphia in a timely manner for our scheduled game. We're asking all of our fans to hold onto their tickets as the game will be rescheduled."
Wings fans holding tickets for the postponed game are encouraged to hold on to their tickets as they will be honored on the newly rescheduled date. Fans holding tickets for the postponed game may instead exchange them for any other Wings home game at the Wachovia Center, including Friday, March 14, against the San Jose Stealth, or Saturday, April 19, against the New York Titans.
