The Toronto Rock are losing the battle for their playoff lives, thanks in large part to a monumental collapse Saturday.
Mark Miyashita's fifth goal of the season with 1:43 remaining in the fourth quarter lifted the Minnesota Swarm to a stunning 10-9 win over the defending National Lacrosse League champions.
Sean Pollock, Spencer Martin and Brock Boyle each scored twice for the Swarm (7-6), which rallied from seven goals down to remain in a tie with Philadelphia for second place in the East Division. Ryan Ward added a goal and four assists, while Chad Culp and Riley Kemp had singles.
Colin Doyle countered with four goals and two assists as the Rock (7-7) suffered their biggest blown lead of the season to lose for the third time in four games. The defeat dropped Toronto into a tie with Rochester for the final East playoff spot. Both teams have two games remaining, including an April 15 showdown in Rochester on the final day of the regular season.
Elsewhere in the NLL on Saturday, it was: Calgary 12, San Jose 10; Philadelphia 8, Rochester 7; and Buffalo 13, Arizona 10.
At St. Paul, Minn., Doyle's fourth goal of the game at 5:49 of the third quarter gave the Rock a 9-2 lead. The Swarm stormed back with three goals in the third and added five unanswered goals in the fourth, capped by Miyashita's unassisted game winner.
Josh Sanderson added two goals and two assists for Toronto while Aaron Wilson, Blaine Manning and Chris Driscoll chipped in with singles.
Minnesota goaltender Matt Disher earned the win with 12 saves in relief of starter Nick Patterson, who allowed eight goals on 20 shots.
Bob Watson stopped 36 shots in a losing cause for the Rock.
Roughnecks 12, Stealth 10
At Calgary, Kevin Dostie's fourth-quarter hat trick helped the Roughnecks earn sole possession of the West Division lead with a victory over San Jose.
Tracy Kelusky led the way with three goals and four assists for Calgary (7-5), which opened up a half-game lead over Portland and Colorado. Lewis Ratcliff had a goal and five assists and Jason Wulder scored a pair of first-quarter goals for the Roughnecks.
Ryan McNish, Kyle Goundrey and Grant Hamilton added singles.
Kevin Fines paces the Stealth attack with a pair of goals as San Jose (5-7) slipped to fifth in the West. Jarett Park, Luke Wiles, Derek Malawsky, Chad Thompson, Cam Woods, Gary Rosyski and Ian Hawksbee also scored for the Stealth.
Wings 8, Knighthawks 7
At Philadelphia, Jake Burgey scored twice in the fourth quarter as the Wings held off Rochester.
Sean Greenhalgh scored a pair for Philadelphia (7-6) while Kyle Sweeney, Pete Jacobs, Jeff Spano and Jeff Ratcliffe added goals.
The victory kept the Wings in the playoff hunt with three games left in the regular season.
"We definitely need this win, especially going into Toronto next week," said Wings head coach Lindsay Sanderson. "This was a gutsy performance by these guys. They played a full 60 minutes and I think they dominated the whole game.
"Everybody is getting ready for the playoffs, and this was playoff lacrosse. There are no easy goals. Everything was earned by both teams."
John Grant's hat trick paced the Knighthawks (7-7), who also had goals from Pat Dutton, Regy Thorpe, Shawn Evans and Mike Accursi.
Bandits 13, Sting 10
At Glendale, Ariz., John Tavares scored twice and added five assists as Buffalo wrapped up a playoff spot with a win over the Sting.
Cory Bomberry added three goals and two assists for the Bandits (9-4), who hold a two-game lead in the East with three regular-season games remaining. Dan Teat scored twice and added three assists, Mark Steenhuis posted two goals and two assists and Pat McCready and Kim Squire each scored a pair for Buffalo.
Craig Conn led with three goals and an assist for Arizona (6-6), which squandered its chance to move into a three-way tie for second place in the West Division.
Lindsay Plunkett had a goal and four assists while Dan Dawson, Curt Malawsky, Matt Brown, Chris Seller, Peter Veltman and Pat Maddalena added singles for the Sting.
