Knighthawks’ Grant earns All-Star spot
(February 21, 2007) — John Grant was the lone Rochester Knighthawks player selected to start in the National Lacrosse All-Star Game.
Grant will be joined in the East Division’s lineup by Buffalo’s John Tavares, Chicago’s Cam Woods, and Philadelphia’s Thomas Hajek, Geoff Snider and Matt Roik for the game on March 10 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore.
For the West team, Colorado’s Dan Carey, ex-Knighthawk Andrew Turner of Edmonton, Portland’s Brodie Merrill, Calgary’s Taylor Wray and Arizona’s Dan Dawson and Rob Blasdell were selected in balloting done by NLL general managers, fans and media.
Rochester’s Scott Evans, the NLL’s leading goal scorer, was left off the team, but is likely to be picked as one of the East’s reserves. Other Knighthawks who warrant a spot on the team are Shawn Williams and Steve Toll.
The East squad will be coached by Buffalo’s Darris Kilgour, who earned the job because the Bandits played in the NLL championship game last year. Knighthawks coach Ed Comeau will serve as one of Kilgour’s assistants.
