Ceglia Added to Team USA for Champions Challenge
Current Philadelphia Barrage defenseman and former Orange lacrosse standout Joe Ceglia has been added to the Team USA roster for the upcoming "Champions Challenge." Ceglia joins Sean Lindsay as players with ties to the SU program who will take part in the event on Jan. 26-27 at the Wide World of Disney Complex near Orlando, Fla.
Ceglia had one assist and 18 ground balls in 12 games to the help the Barrage to its second consecutive Major League Lacrosse (MLL) title in 2007.
Prior to joining the pro ranks, Ceglia competed for Syracuse from 1997-2000 and was member of the Orange's 2000 national championship team. Ceglia earned honorable mention All-America honors on defense as a senior after finishing second on the team with 78 ground balls. He also scored four goals and dished out an assist.
The U.S. men's squad will play an exhibition game against NCAA finalist Duke as part of the "Champions Challenge." The women's Elite and Developmental teams will play exhibition games against the women's programs from Duke and Johns Hopkins in addition to the men's exhibition. Both the U.S. men's and women's teams will also conduct clinics for local youth players as part of the weekend's schedule of events.
