Default Men's Lacrosse: Harvard releases 2008 schedule

Cambridge, Mass. - The Harvard men's lacrosse team will play five home games in 2008, including three at Harvard Stadium, and will face three teams from the top 7 of the final 2007 USILA Poll, including Duke, last season's national finalist.

The Crimson will have a 14-game schedule under first-year head coach John Tillman, and will kick off its season Feb. 23 at Siena.

"We are excited about the upcoming season and the challenges we will face as a team," Tillman said. "Lacrosse has a strong tradition at Harvard, and is a very popular sport on campus as well as in the New England area. The Ivy League is one of the best league's in the country and our out of conference schedule is very tough."

The home slate begins against America East opponent Stony Brook March 1 at Jordan Field. Harvard will also host ECAC member Fairfield at Jordan Field March 15 before moving to Harvard Stadium for its remaining 2008 home games.

"Our administration has been very supportive of our program and Harvard Stadium is one of the premier lacrosse venues in the country," Tillman continued."

Harvard was 1-1 at Jordan Field, and 2-1 at Harvard Stadium in 2007.

The Crimson will welcome defending Ivy League champion Cornell on April 5.. Conference rivals Princeton (April 12), a 2007 NCAA Tournament team, and Dartmouth (May 3) round out Harvard's home schedule at Harvard Stadium. Harvard concluded 2007 with a 13-9 win over the Big Green.

On March 8, the team travels to Massachusetts, before heading to Hartford for a matchup March 11.

Harvard hits the road for a three-game road trip from March 22 to March 29, as the Crimson will face Penn (March 22), Duke (March 25) and Denver (March 29). Last season, the Crimson defeated Penn, 7-6, in overtime and earned a 6-4 win at Denver.

"Our fan base is strong and our alumni are very close and passionate about Harvard Lacrosse. We want to make sure we get to areas where they can see us play and continue to play top programs."

The Crimson also face Brown (April 16), Holy Cross (April 19) and Yale (April 26) in road contests. Harvard won a 9-6 decision over Brown in 2007, and defeated Holy Cross, 12-9.

Harvard is also scheduled to play four exhibition games against Syracuse (February 9), Bryant (February 12, Maryland (February 16) and Binghamton (February 16) before opening the season.

"Playing Syracuse in the Carrier Dome is always a challenge and our trip to Maryland will be a great experience for our team, especially the players from the Baltimore area. Hosting a tough Bryant squad will be another opportunity, as we grow as a team before the season begins," Tillman explained.

Harvard and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference will serve as co-hosts for the 2008 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships held at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. May 24-26.
