Pride Teams Up With Cystic Fibrosis
The New Jersey Pride men's Professional Lacrosse Team announces their game day partnership with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Greater New Jersey. The fund-raising event, scheduled for June 21, 2008, has been established to help expand cystic fibrosis research and care.
The New Jersey Pride will be donating a portion of their June 21st game day proceeds directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. All funds will be used to support the organization's advancements toward finding a cure.
Kathie Bond and her daughter Allie are both avid supporters of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the sport of lacrosse. They are not only attending the game day event hosted by the Pride, but they are also participants in the Great Strides walk, hosted by The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
"My daughter, who has cystic fibrosis, loves the game of lacrosse and is becoming quite a good middie for her team," said Kathie. "The medications that she takes everyday are available because of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, so please, help the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and all of the people with cystic fibrosis reach their goals."
Fundraising events for CF, such as the June 21st New Jersey Pride game, allow these two organizations to come together and raise money and awareness to find a cure, while also allowing the community to take an active part in these efforts. The June 21st game will be played at the Rutgers University Yurcak Field in Piscataway at 8:00pm. Call (973) 614-1792 for tickets.

The Bayhawks and the Rattlers are tied for first place in the Eastern Conference.
Another Streak Bites the Dust - After losing to the Denver Outlaws by a
16-13 margin on Saturday night, the Los Angeles Riptide had their team-record seven-game home win streak snapped. Prior to Saturday, the last time that Los Angeles lost at the Home Depot Center was on August 12, 2006 when they dropped a 13-9 decision against Denver.
20-20 Vision - By posting a 22-12 victory over the Philadelphia Barrage on Thursday evening, the Long Island Lizards have scored 20 or more points in back-to-back regular season games for the first time since the 2001 season.
During the inaugural campaign, the Lizards scored 23 points and 20 points in back-to-back wins over Boston.
Double Deuces - After allowing a combined 24 points in their first two games, the Philadelphia Barrage have allowed 22 points in each of their last two games. They lost to Rochester by a 22-9 margin two weeks ago before last Thursday's 22-12 setback at Long Island. The Barrage have allowed a league-leading 68 points in four games so far this year.
Great Eight - The Boston Cannons held the New Jersey Pride to just eight points in their 16-8 victory last Friday night, marking the fewest points allowed by a team this year. It was the fewest points allowed by the Cannons in a single game since June 29, 2006 when Boston held Philadelphia to a league-record five points in a 16-5 victory.
We Want to Finish - Saturday's game between the Rochester Rattlers and the Washington Bayhawks was called with 2:29 remaining in the third quarter due to heavy lightning in the Fairfax, Va. area. Following a 70-minute delay, the game officials stopped the contest.
Saving the Best for Last - During the first four games, the Rochester Rattlers have outscored their opponents, 17-1, in the fourth quarter. The Rattlers held Philadelphia scoreless in the fourth quarter while scoring five goals two weeks ago. John Grant, Jr. has scored six of his goals in the fourth quarter of games this year.
Take Me to Your Leader - With two goals and an assist in the Rattlers' 14-11 loss against Washington, Rochester attackman Casey Powell became the all-time points leader in MLL history. He surpassed Mark Millon and now has
358 points in his seven-year career. Powell passed Millon by assisting on a goal from John Grant, Jr. in the third quarter.
Nice Debut, Rookie - San Francisco rookie midfielder Mike Podgajny had quite the MLL debut in the Dragons' 15-14 overtime victory over Chicago on Saturday evening. He scored two goals with three assists and was named as the Bud Light MVP. The seventh overall pick in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft, he also scored the game-winning goal just 49 seconds into the extra period as San Francisco overcame a four-goal run by Chicago which tied the game.
Turning Defense to Offense - Rochester defenseman Brodie Merrill and Philadelphia defenseman Kyle Sweeney lead all MLL defenders in scoring through the first four weeks of the season. Merrill has scored three goals with four assists while Sweeney tallied three goals with two assists.
Staying in the Box - Philadelphia defenseman Brian Spallina leads the MLL in penalty minutes through the first four games. He has recorded 10.5 penalty minutes in the first four games after being sent to the penalty box three times in the fourth quarter against Long Island. San Francisco Dragons Dragons Captain Liam Banks Out With Injury
The San Francisco Dragons of Major League Lacrosse announced today that attackman Liam Banks will be out indefinitely due to an injury sustained in the Dragons 15-14 overtime win over Chicago on June 7th. Banks will be flown back to San Francisco from Detroit on Friday morning where he has been for work commitments, and have surgery on Friday afternoon by Dragons Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Oberlander.
An MRI result on Thursday revealed a potential tear to his meniscus, and the exact prognosis will not be known until the procedure has been completed late Friday. Banks, a team captain, has been a mainstay on the Dragon's attack since being acquired in a draft day trade with New Jersey at the 2007 Collegiate Draft.
"Obviously having a player of Liam's caliber out of the lineup is a blow, however we are very hopeful that the results of the surgery will be positive enough to allow him to participate later in the 2008 season" commented Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Locker. "Liam is a very special person and teammate and has put everything he has into this team for the past two seasons."
"It's been a tough couple of weeks with injuries here as we have been without Sean (Lindsay) as well, but we have been really pleased and impressed with the way our guys have stepped up during this time." Locker continued.
The Dragons play the Denver Outlaws on Saturday in Denver at 7pm (MST), and then travel to New Jersey for a June 21st game vs. the Pride before returning home to face the Boston Cannons at Spartan Stadium on June 28th at Spartan Stadium.

Denver Outlaws Host San Francisco Dragons
-Tomorrow night the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse return to INVESCO Field at Mile High to play the San Francisco Dragons at 7:00 pm. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Network-Rocky Mountain on Sunday at 12:30 pm and again on Thursday, June 19th at 11:30 pm.
Prior to the game, the stadium will be filled with lacrosse fans for the Qdoba Mini Lax Jam 2008. Teams of three people of all ages will play in a round robin format tournament and win prizes from the Outlaws and Qdoba Mexican Grill. The Outlaws postgame party is at the Celtic Tavern at 1801 Blake St.
With the first of three meetings against San Francisco, the Outlaws look to improve their home game record to 3-0. The second meeting against the Dragons will also be in Denver on the 4th of July where a fireworks show will commence after the game. Following the MLL All-Star Game in Denver on July 17th, the Outlaws will head west to San Francisco on the 19th for the last of the regular season games between these two powerhouses.
Currently, the Denver Outlaws lead the Western Conference with a record of 3-1, while the San Francisco Dragons hold a 1-2 record. Although history does not bode well for Denver when playing the Dragons (3-4 overall), San Francisco comes in with a less experienced team than in 2007, with the Outlaws reaping the benefits.
The Outlaws acquired two Dragons in the offseason, attackman Ryan Powell and midfielder Nate Watkins. Powell is having a monster season so far tallying 11 points and surpassing his brother Casey for career assists with 165 making him second in the record books. Watkins is a major contributor on the defensive side of the field having picked up 11 groundballs already. These two along with the other Outlaws are looking to keep the momentum going after the big road win at Los Angeles last weekend.
The Dragons come into the game after last weekend's overtime win against Chicago. In his first professional game, midfielder and first-round draft pick Mike Podgajny scored the game winning goal giving San Francisco their first win of the season. Leading San Francisco are Jake Byrne with 10 pts, and Tim Booth recording 9 pts.
Look for the Outlaws to play at home the following Saturday, June 21st against the Chicago Machine. This will be the first of three meetings between these Western Conference teams.
Call 303-OUTLAWS for ticket information. Single game tickets start at $8 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com. The complete 2008 MLL Schedule can be viewed at majorleaguelacrosse.com: League Schedule.
ROUND 'EM UP
Leader of the pack: Midfielder Brian Langtry is currently in second place in overall MLL scoring with 21 points. Only three points ahead of Langtry is John Grant, Jr. of the Rochester Rattlers.
Stayin' local: The Outlaws have four players who graduated from the University of Denver: Geoff Snider (06), Matt Brown ('05), Tom Ethington ('02) and Ryan Zordani ('07).
Amazing attacker: Since joining the Outlaws, Ryan Powell has averaged 5.5 pts per game. He is currently ranked second in career assists with 165.
Powerful power plays: The Outlaws are 6-8, or 75%, on the man-up and are killing off 75% of opponents' man-up opportunities.
Hometown heroes: Matt Hanna and Brian Langtry both work in the education system. Hanna is the Director of Admissions and the Assistant Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Regis Jesuit High School. He also gives back to the community through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado. Last summer he organized two summer lacrosse camps as fundraisers for cancer research. At the Challenge School (magnet) in Denver, Langtry is an humanities and lacrosse elective teacher.
Go 'green' or go home: Partnering with Esurance, the Denver Outlaws collect recyclable items during every game. The Outlaws also will be planting more trees around INVESCO Field at Mile High adding to the oxygen in the air and the beauty of the stadium.
From the box to the field: Nine of the Outlaws play for the National Lacrosse League, an indoor professional lacrosse league. The Colorado Mammoth reaps the benefits with five of those nine playing for them during the MLL offseason: Josh Sims, Brian Langtry, Matt Brown, Tom Ethington and Nick Carlson. Scattered throughout the rest of the NLL are: Ryan Powell (Portland LumberJax), Brendan Mundorf (New York Titans), Geoff Snider (Philadelphia Wings), and Drew Westervelt (Philadelphia Wings).
A part of history: Former Outlaws Midfielder Mike Law will be inducted into the University of Denver's Hall of Fame on October 23rd. Law played for the Outlaws their inaugural season (2006) and in 2007, as well as for the Colorado Mammoth. Some would argue that Law is the best lacrosse player to come out of Colorado, attending Regis Jesuit High School. He was DU's first lacrosse honorable mention All-American.

Chicago Machine Play Defending MLL Champs
The Gateway City will be in for a treat when Major League Lacrosse (MLL) brings the reigning champions the Barrage and underdog Machine together at Anheuser-Busch Center Saturday. Both teams will be looking to rebound from losses last weekend.
The 2007 MLL champs suffered a 22-12 blowout defeat at the hands of the Long Island Lizards last week and are riding a two-game losing streak. The Barrage (2-2) is currently fifth in the Eastern Conference behind Long Island and Boston.
The Machine (1-3) is also suffering after a tough 15-14 loss in overtime to the San Francisco Dragons and are on a three-game losing streak as well. Chicago's latest loss saw them to slip into last place in the Western Conference. Two of the losses, however, have been by just one goal.
This will be just the second time the teams have ever met. The last battle took place during the 2006 season, when the Barrage needed an overtime victory to squeak past the Machine 13-12.
The Machine and Barrage bring strongly contrasting squads into the game. The Machine, the youngest team in the league, sports a mass of fresh talent, while the Barrage relies on experience and guile. The Barrage, however, is unsure whether reigning Warrior Goalie of the year, Brian "Doc" Dougherty, will be able to play this weekend. Dougherty is questionable after suffering a shoulder injury during the game against Long Island last week.
Last week, Machine coach John Combs took a gamble and threw another rookie onto the field, midfielder Terry Kimener. Comb's luck paid off when Kimener provided the much-needed firepower by scoring three goals in his MLL debut. In the last two games, the Machine has played four members of their rookie class from the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft. Mike Leveille (2G, 5A), Will Barrow (1G), Steven Brooks (4G, 4A), and Terry Kimener (3G) have combined for 19 points total in just two games.
The Machine defense reduced the number of penalties it took from 10 against Washington to just four against San Francisco last week. The Dragons, however, took advantage of those power plays and netted three goals on four power play opportunities.
The Machine defensive unit of Jeff Bigas, Rob Smith, Steve Whittenberg and goalie Mike Gabel will have to put together a strong effort to neutralize Barrage firepower from the likes of Matt Striebel (8G, 7A), Seth Goldberg (12G, 1A) and Ryan Boyle (4G, 9A). Chicago's penalty-killing unit will have to step up this weekend to shut down the Barrage's 36-percent powerplay advantage.
On face-offs, Machine midfielder Doug Shanahan should have some success considering the Barrage have only won 41 percent of its draws in the last four games.

The Rochester Rattlers dropped their second straight contest with a 16-12 loss to the last place New Jersey Pride to earn its first win of the season. Despite the loss, the Rattlers remain tied for first in the Eastern Conference after Washington's 15-11 loss to Long Island Lizards.
John Grant led the Rattlers with three goals and one assist, while Brett Bucktooth chipped in with a pair of goals and assists on the night. Goaltender Mike Levin took the loss with 9 saves, 15 goals against, and only 51:27 minutes played, before being relieved by rookie goaltender Adam Fullerton early in the fourth quarter. Fullerton completed his professional debut with two saves and one goal against.
New Jersey was led by rookie Matt Danowski with two goals and three assists to earn Bud Light MVP Player of the Game honors. The Pride's Merrick Thomson and Greg Peyser each scored four goals. Pride goaltender Rob Scherr had 24 saves to earn his first win of the season.
Rochester opened the scoring early on the first shot of the game, just 13 seconds into the contest, as MLL all-time points leader Casey Powell found the back of the net for the Rochester Rattlers. Bucktooth gave the Rattlers a 2-0 lead, but Matthew Rewkowski of the Pride quickly answered to cut the lead 2-1. The Rattlers extended their lead to 3-1 at 9:45, but the Pride rallied for two goals to tie the game at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter.
League-point leader Grant gave the Rattlers a 4-3 lead at 2:09 of the second with an unassisted goal. New Jersey then answered with two goals to take their first lead of the game 5-4. After tying the game up with a goal by Joe Walters, the Rattlers scored two more and ended the first half up 7-5.
New Jersey stunned the Rattlers with the first four goals of the third to take their second lead of the night at 9-7. Grant scored his third to cut the lead 9-8, but a Bucktooth goal tied the game again at 9-9.
The Pride quickly responded with five goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to give them the 14-9 lead, with Thompson scoring three in that five-goal span. Greg Peyser, one of three Peyser brothers on the Pride lineup, then scored shorthanded for his fourth of the night, to extend the Pride lead to 15-9. Despite a three-goal by Rochester, the Pride kept the lead for the rest of the game and added one more to hand the Rattlers their second loss of the season.
The Rochester Rattlers play the Philadelphia Barrage on Saturday, June 21st in Cary, NC. The contest will be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet. The Rattlers will hold a Viewing Party at The Distillery (3010 Winton Road South). The game also will be broadcast live on WYSL 1040-AM and wysl1040.com.

The game is a rematch of the 2007 MLL Semifinals, which was won by LA 15-14 last August. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Brodie Merrill player card, courtesy of Bud Light. Fans can arrive early and enjoy the pregame party with live music from Shelflyfe. After the game, the Rattlers' official postgame party will be held at The Distillery at 1142 Mt. Hope Ave.

Outlaws slay Dragons, 19-16
At INVESCO Field at Mile High, 9,316 fans cheered on the Denver Outlaws as they defeated San Francisco, 19-16. Earning the Bud Light MVP honors for the night was Brian Langtry with four goals and two assists.
Starting out strong with a goal by Denver's Brian Langtry, the Outlaws were off to a four goal streak. Two of those goals were Langtry's, and Matt Hanna scored a 2-point goal 5:14 into the game. Responding to those goals was San Francisco attackman Jake Byrne assisted by Kyle Hartzell.
The second quarter brought a different change of pace with the Dragons scoring six unanswered goals putting them ahead 7-5. Midfielder Matt Lalli recorded two unassisted goals, one at 1:05 and the other at 5:13. With the Outlaws short a player on a penalty, San Francisco's Ryan Cranston took advantage of the opportunity, scoring a man-up goal. Putting the Dragons in the lead, 6-5, was Brendan Loftus with a goal at 7:23. After another goal by Cranston, Outlaw Matt Brown tied up the game with two goals, one of those on a power play. There to respond was Lalli and Greg Gurenlian of the Dragons.
With San Francisco ahead, 10-8, going into the second half, Langtry rounded out his previous two goals with a third to give him a hat trick. Quickly answering was Lalli, also for his third goal. Brown recorded two consecutive goals, followed by fellow teammate and former San Francisco Dragon Ryan Powell with a goal. Next came two goals for both teams, with San Francisco's Lewis Ratcliff scoring both for the Dragons. After a goal by Langtry with less than 20 second left in the third, Geoff Snider won the face-off for the Outlaws and proceeded to get the ball past Dragon goalie Matt Vallone making the score 17-13 for the Outlaws.
Finishing out the game, the teams traded two goals each starting with Denver's Jeff Sonke. Lalli scored his fifth goal of the night making him the Dragons' leading scorer. Brendan Mundorf of the Outlaws finished off his night with a hat trick with 5:32 to play. Following him, Byrne scored a 2-point goal rounding out the score, 19-16.

Barrage Defeat Chicago Machine in Overtime
The Chicago Machine suffered a difficult 12-11 overtime loss at the hands of the Barrage Saturday night in front of 3,000 people at the Anheuser-Busch Center on Saturday, June 14, 2008.
With their second overtime loss in two weeks, the Machine drops to 1-4 on the season in last place of the Western Conference, while the Barrage improves to 3-2 in the Eastern Conference standings after coming off a crushing defeat last week.
Attackman Mike Leveille led all the Machine players with four goals, while Brian Clayton added three goals in the loss. Barrage attackman Seth Goldberg led the team with three goals and an assist as Matt Striebel also led with three goals.
The Barrage opened the gates by jumping ahead after Striebel and Michael Springer scored to lead 2-0, before midfielder Steven Brooks netted the first goal to put the Machine on the board. However that didn't slow the Barrage down as they surged ahead with two more goals to take the lead 4-1. Machine attackman Kevin Leveille scored later into the first quarter to cut the lead in half. However, to no avail, the Barrage scored once more by Goldberg before the end of the first quarter to extend the lead 5-2.
Both teams then opened the second quarter with more firepower and traded a pair of goals until the Machine fired up their engines with less than five minutes remaining to tie the game at six goals apiece. Jake Deane slipped one by the Barrage goaltender Brian Doughtery, as Clayton added two more goals to catch up with the Barrage.
The Barrage's own, Roy Colsey opened the second half adding a powerplay goal to the Barrage's scoreboard, breaking the tie and taking the lead once again. The battle continued with both teams finding the back of the net three times into the fourth quarter.
