Casey Powell Becomes MLL All-Time Leading Score
Boston, MA (June 10, 2008) - Rochester Rattlers attackman Casey Powell became the all-time leading scorer in Major League Lacrosse history on Saturday when he scored two goals and added an assist to surpass the mark that had been previously held by Mark Millon.
"Congratulations to Casey on reaching this milestone," said MLL Commissioner David Gross. "This is no small accomplishment, but it comes as no surprise to those who have followed his career as Casey has consistently been a top performer since he joined the League in 2001. I wish him continued success."
Powell entered the 2008 season with 346 points (182 goals, 4 two-point goals, 160 assists), just ten points shy of Millon's record of 356 points (239 goals, 4 two-point goals, 113 assists). Entering Saturday evening's contest versus the Washington Bayhawks, Powell sat at 357, just two points shy of making the scoring record his own.
Powell tied Millon's record with a goal at 5:43 in the first quarter off an assist from Brodie Merrill. In the third quarter, Powell assisted on a John Grant Jr. goal at the 3:23 mark to give him the record. He would also score an unassisted goal later in the period. Despite the record-breaking performance by Powell, Saturday was the Rattlers first loss of the 2008 season as they fell to the Bayhawks by a score of 14-11 in a game that was called due to extreme weather with 2:29 remaining in the third quarter.
Powell, a 1998 graduate of Syracuse University, joined the League in 2001 as a member of the Long Island Lizards. He has been a member of the Rattlers since 2003.
Millon, a 1994 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, played for seven seasons, although he was limited to just five games in 2007, his final year in the league. He spent the majority of his career playing for the Baltimore (and then Washington) Bayhawks, and also spent time playing for the Boston Cannons and the Long Island Lizards.
Powell will next have a chance to add to his points collection at Rochester's next game on Saturday, June 14th at 7:30 PM ET when they host the New Jersey Pride at PAETEC Park.

Boston Cannons And New Balance Team Up To Support Special Olympics
The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and New Balance are teaming up to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA), which is dedicated to assisting in the physical, social and psychological development of people with intellectual disabilities through successful experiences in sports, Cannons Vice President and General Manager Mark Kastrud announced today. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the sale of Cannons attackman Mikey Powell bobble head dolls, provided by New Balance, will benefit SOMA.
"We are proud to partner with New Balance to benefit the Special Olympics Massachusetts," said Kastrud. "As a team, we feel that it's important to give back to the community that supports the Cannons, and we're excited to be involved with an organization that uses sport to bring happiness and life skills into people's lives."
A limited supply of Powell bobble head dolls are on sale now for $12 and can be purchased online at BOSTONCANNONS.COM or by calling the Cannons front office at (617) 746-9933. For every doll sold, the Cannons and New Balance will donate $6 to SOMA.
