Boston Cannons Acquire Matt Alrich And Colin Hulme
BOSTON, MA - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) have acquired attackman Matt Alrich and defenseman Colin Hulme from the San Francisco Dragons in exchange for attackman David Mitchell and a fourth-round selection (39th overall) in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft, Cannons Vice President and General Manager Mark Kastrud announced today.
"We are excited to now have Matt and Colin as members of the Cannons," said Cannons Head Coach Bill Daye. "Matt brings experience to our offense and gives us an added dimension on our attack because with his size he'll present match-up problems for some teams we face. He also gives us another two-point shooting threat. Colin is a very athletic defenseman that will provide depth to our close defense unit and can also be used as a short stick defense midfielder in certain situations, which will benefit the team tremendously."
"As always it's difficult to trade away players like David, however we feel that this trade strengthens our team in two critical areas," Daye added. "On behalf of the Cannons organization, I would like to thank David for his contributions last year during his rookie season and wish him the best of luck in the future."
Alrich, 26, appeared in 11 games for the Dragons in 2007 and finished the season tied for fourth on the team in goals (18) and ranked fifth in total points scored (22). He also collected one two-point goal, three assists and 14 groundballs. The 6-3, 220-pound native of Timonium, Maryland, had seven multi-point games during the 2007 season and scored two goals or more in six games. Alrich was selected as the Bud Light MVP for his season-high six-point game versus Denver on June 23.
Prior to his two-year stint with San Francisco, Alrich played in five games for the since-relocated Baltimore Bayhawks, the team who originally drafted him in the fourth-round (23rd overall) in the 2004 MLL Collegiate Draft.
A 2004 graduate of the University of Delaware, Alrich was a First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection during his senior season and participated in the North/South Senior All-Star Game. Alrich led the team in goals and points during both his junior and senior campaigns. He finished his collegiate career with 83 goals, including 14 hat tricks, and 20 assists.
Hulme, 22, played in nine games for the Dragons as a rookie in 2007 and collected 15 groundballs and one penalty minute. The 6-0, 220-pound native of Framingham, Massachusetts, was originally selected by the Dragons in the second-round (16th overall) of the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft.
During his senior season at Colgate University in 2007, Hulme was named as the Patriot League Defenseman of the Year and voted to the All-Patriot League First Team for the second time, in addition to earning USILA Division-I All-American honorable mention honors for the second consecutive season and playing in the North/South Senior All-Star Game. As the anchor of the 20th ranked defense in the nation in goals allowed, Hulme finished his collegiate career with five goals, two assists and 162 groundballs in 60 games played.
The Cannons are scheduled to open training camp for the 2008 season at Harvard Stadium on April 26. They will then square-off against the New Jersey Pride at Harvard Stadium on May 17, as the first of seven home games this season.
Cannons 2008 Season Ticket Packages are on sale now and feature all three MLL playoff games as NB Zip MLL Championship Weekend returns to Boston, in addition to great seats at all seven Cannons home games this season. The Cannons offer outstanding sports and entertainment perfect for families, businesses and groups of friends.

Dave Mitchell Acquired By Dragons
Burlingame (CA) - The San Francisco Dragons of Major League Lacrosse announced today the club has acquired attackman David Mitchell (Cornell) and the 39th selection in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft from the Boston Cannons in exchange for Matt Alrich and Colin Hulme.
Mitchell, a 2007 graduate of Cornell University, was a 1st round selection (8th overall) in the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Cannons. He played in 7 games in 2007, scoring 11 goals and adding 1 assist while scooping up 10 groundballs. At Cornell University, he was a 1st Team All American selection and Tewaaraton Trophy nominee after scoring 47 goals and 9 assists for 56 points leading Cornell to the National Championship game. As a junior he scored 43 goals and 9 assists for 52 points. He was a 1st Team All Ivy League selection after both his junior and senior seasons. Mitchell became the 32nd player in Cornell history to score 100 points in their career. In addition, he was selected 25th overall in the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Wings.
"Dave (Mitchell) is an outstanding lacrosse player who we feel will be a great addition to our team this coming season. He is a natural goal scorer, who is virtually automatic around the goal," commented Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Locker. "We are very grateful for the contributions Matt (Alrich) has made to the Dragons over the past two seasons, and in the end wanted to honor his request to play in the east due to his work commitments. Colin (Hulme) had similar issues due to his coaching position at Holy Cross. We wish both of them all the best."

Dragons Acquire Top Selections In Trade
Burlingame (CA) - The San Francisco Dragons of Major League Lacrosse announced today the club has traded Ryan Powell and Nate Watkins to the Denver Outlaws in exchange for two first round, and one second round selections in MLL Collegiate Draft. In the transaction, San Francisco received the 7th overall selection (1st round) and the 17th overall selection (2nd round) in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft, and Denver's 1st round selection in the 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft. With this transaction the Dragons now have 3 selections in the first 17 and 7 total selections in 2008, in what is believed to be one of the strongest drafts in some time, while now controlling two 1st round selections in the 2009 draft, also a very strong draft.
Ryan Powell and Nate Watkins have been with the franchise since its inaugural season in 2006 and have played key roles for the Dragons during that time. Powell was the MLL Most Valuable Player in 2006 after scoring 34 goals and adding 24 assists for 58 points. In 2007 he recorded 18 goals and added 22 assists for 41 points. Watkins scored 3 goals and added 5 assists for 8 points in 2007 and had 15 goals and 5 assists in 2006.
"Ryan Powell is one of the best lacrosse players in the world, and trading him was something that was very difficult, however Tom (Slate) and I felt that we needed to take advantage of the strength of the next two draft cycles to build our team," Executive Vice President and General Manger Doug Locker said. "The opportunity to select three players in the top 17 of this class and 2 of the top 10 in next year's draft class gives us a chance to improve our club immediately, and in the end we could not pass up that prospect". Locker continued, "We are very grateful for the efforts put forth on behalf of the Dragons by both Ryan and Nate, and wish them all the best in the years to come."

Two-Time League MVP Ryan Powell Coming To Denver
DENVER- The Denver Outlaws announced today that in a trade with the San Francisco Dragons, the Outlaws will acquire attackman Ryan Powell and midfielder Nate Watkins. The terms of the trade maintain that San Francisco will receive Denver's 7th overall (1st round) and 17th overall (2nd round) picks in the 2008 Collegiate Draft as well as Denver's first round pick in the 2009 Collegiate Draft.
Powell has been a part of Major League Lacrosse since 2001, where he began his career with the Rochester Rattlers until 2005. Powell was traded to the San Francisco Dragons in 2006, where he played in 10 games, scoring 34 goals while recording 24 assists. That same year Powell was named Warrior Offensive Player of the Year and Bud Light MVP. He is the first MLL player to gain both honors in the same season. Moreover, Powell is the first to win multiple MVP awards. The 2007 season saw Powell as the team leader in points, playing in 10 games and scoring 18 goals, 1 2-point, and 22 assists good for a total of 41 points.
"I'm super excited about just coming to Denver. To be able to play at INVESCO Field at Mile High Stadium is incredible. I grew up idolizing John Elway. To call the stadium my home is something I'm excited about," Powell said. "The Outlaws are such a great group of guys. They are definitely contenders for a championship, and hopefully we will bring that championship back to Denver in summer 2008."
Powell, an MLL All-Star Team selection multiple times, is considered a leading attack in the MLL. Outlaws General Manager and Head Coach Brian Reese feels especially fortunate for the new additions to the Outlaws. "Ryan's accomplishments and statistics speak for themselves. He is one of the most talented lacrosse players to ever play the game. I think what impresses me the most about Ryan is his tenacity and competitiveness. The intensity he plays with is contagious. Ryan will fit in well with the team we have in place and will provide leadership on the offensive end," Reese said.
At Syracuse University, Powell was selected First-Team All American three times (1998, 1999, 2000) and winner of the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award as the Division I National Player of the Year after scoring 66 goals and adding 30 assists.
In addition to the MLL, Powell is also an 8-year veteran of the NLL, currently playing for the Portland Lumberjax. Powell is one of only two current players in Lumberjax history to score at least one point in every game they have appeared in over the course of at least one full season. He is also the second in Lumberjax history with 35 goals and the first in franchise history to have 57 assists. Professionally, Powell also works for Rhino Lacrosse and recently became Nike's first fully-endorsed professional lacrosse player.
Nate Watkins' MLL career parallels Powell, as he played in Rochester for four years, then became a member of the Dragons' roster in their inaugural season in 2006. He was selected by San Francisco in the 2006 MLL Expansion Draft and had his best season that year, scoring 15 goals and adding 5 assists in 12 games. Watkins, a 2002 graduate of the University of Maryland, tied for the team lead in goals with 24 and added 7 assists in his senior season.
"Nate is an athletic player that can play well on both ends of the field. He is one of the fastest players in the league and will add to an already fast group of midfielders," said Reese.
The trade gives San Francisco a total of seven picks in the upcoming Collegiate Draft, which will be held on May 28th. Denver has four picks.
"Ryan and Nate are both experienced and extremely talented players. Adding them to the team gives us another dynamic and makes us a harder team to match up with. Both of these guys are committed to doing what it takes to win. We are fortunate to have them in Denver now."
This summer, INVESCO Field at Mile High will host six Outlaws games, the 2008 Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game, the CHSAA boys lacrosse championship game, a CU vs. CSU men's and women's club lacrosse games and the women's college club championship game. The Outlaws home opener is May 17th against the Los Angeles Riptide. Season tickets start at $99 and are now on sale by calling 303-OUTLAWS.

Major League Lacrosse Adopts Cascade Pro7 Helmet
When players for Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, step onto the field next week to begin the League's eighth season, they will do so wearing the most advanced lacrosse helmet on the market. According to MLL Commissioner David Gross, the league has designated the new Cascade Pro7 as the Official Helmet of Major League Lacrosse.
"Cascade is more than just an equipment supplier," said Gross. "Having been with the League since the beginning, they have been a great partner and supporter over the years."
Cascade has been the Official Helmet Supplier of Major League Lacrosse since the Summer Showcase tour in 2000. In 2006, Cascade produced 40 limited-edition Pink CPX helmets for the MLL All-Stars and members of Team USA to wear during the All-Star Game. The helmets were subsequently autographed and auctioned online, raising over $19,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
"At Cascade we are proud the best players in the world play in our new Pro 7 helmet," added Bill Brine, Founder of Cascade. "The Pro7 helmet is the direct result of the design input of top MLL players; we built the helmet the way they asked us to."
The Pro7 is the culmination of nearly three years of development by Cascade and represents an entirely new helmet design.
Three main features make the Pro7 unique. First, the Pro7 uses the Seven Technology liner system which has been designed to reduce the energy transferred to head in the event of a direct impact. The system is a combination of design and material that replaces foam with pucks of cylinders that compress upon impact.
Second, the SuperMono Shell breaks away from the tradition method of bolting a visor to the shell, instead resulting in a one piece design in order to maximize the strength of the helmet. This also makes for a much more balanced helmet on the player's head.
Finally, with the ProFit Sizing System, the Pro7 is completely adjustable to fit a large range of sizes, both larger and smaller than was previously available with the CPX. The system results in a fit that is snug so that the helmet can do its job.
More information regarding aspects of the new Pro7, and Cascade's "Released from Captivity" ad campaign can be found at Cascade Lacrosse Helmets and Women's Iris Eyemasks.
