Long Island Lizards Hold Clinic For Rough Rider Lacrosse Players
The Long Island Lizard professional outdoor Lacrosse team came to Oyster Bay High School to instruct the local players in the basics of the game. The clinic was open to both boys and girls from Kindergarten to 8th grade. Midfielder Tim Byrnes taught the players the proper technique for shooting while Attackman Pat Walsh instructed on ground balls and the importance of Wall Ball. This is where players from youth leagues to the pros work on their shots, catches and overall technique by taking numerous shots against a wall with both their strong and weak hands.
Defenseman Nick Polanco helped with the line drills and taught the proper defensive technique to keep the opposing team away from the goal.
Maureen Cacioppa from the Lizards front office, and girl's high school coach, held her own clinic on the proper techniques of throwing, catching and cradling for girls. The boys and girls then had a question and answer period with players. Tim, Pat and Nick were generous with their time and stayed in the gym until all of the children had autographs.
Brooks Sweet, sales manager of STX Lacrosse equipment, also held a demonstration on how to equip a player as well as displaying this year's latest items.
