Default Best way to prevent cramps

Lately after about 5 minutes or so of constant running (middi) I start getting a cramp. Is there any way to prevent this and once I get it whats the best way to get rid of it. I know the simple answer is practice running or whatever but I just dont have the determinaion to do that. Im gonna start but is there a way to just prevent it for a little while longer.

Is it true that if you drink gatorade or powerade BEFORE you go out it gives you cramps. Because thats what so0meone told me, because I always drink alot of gatprade Before I go out. Thanks

You should be drinking Gatorade/Powerade after any physical activity. You need to replenish the lost electorlytes and Gatorade/Powerade do that. Like people have already said, do not drink it before. It could be the main reason.

Before running, drink water throughout the day so you do not get dehydrated. Keep drinking water while running also. Do not drink a huge amount while running or just before. Drink enough that you do not get dehydrated.

While running, I have found putting your hands on top of your head works great. If you can stop, then stop, stand up, and put your hands on your head. It will be gone in a little while. If you are playing in a game and this happens, then you either run through it or shift off.

Hope that helps!

as a midfielder and former cross country runner
water all day, lots of it...i use to carry a 1 gallon container(refilled each night to be used the next day) and tried to get through half of it while in class and such, usually more, it helped when running to not get cramped and after you build up stamina you wont get tired either, gatorade or powerade help after the fact(like halftime i drink some gatorade)
basically like every1 else said-water=hydration=less cramps
oh..eating a banana helps also(potassium(sp?)) to prevent cramps. it's best to eat it 25-35 mins before a game to let it digest and settle in your stomach though.

hope this helps.

yeah-b4 practice or games drink water...after you've been playing a few quarters or practiced for a while grab some gatorade(not too much..but it helps in late game situation).

It could just be your time of the month maybe.

Like others have said, drink a lot of water right before you work out, then drink gatorade towards the end and after your workout.
