If you want to improve 40, odds are that you're going to need to improve mechanics more than strength. This is hard to do without going to a trainer who knows what to look for.

However, some of the basics are pretty simple for acceleration: get your knees high (thigh parallel to ground), lean (~45 degrees) and make contact with the ground behind your hips

Here's some decent technique info: How To Improve Your Sprinting Technique

Sorry for the late reply. Been busy with school and work.

Anyways, some things that you can do and I have done are:
- Planks (works the lower back and core)

- Squat Jumps (legs)

- Push ups (Chest, Triceps, and Shoulders)

- Sit ups/crunches (abdominals)

- Back extensions (lower back)

- Lunges (legs)

- Pull Ups (Lats[back])

These cover the main body parts. I would also recommend doing box jumps to help with explosives. Do it after a workout and see if your legs can handle it :P.

Posted some things that I could remember. It will help out for now. I will post some more when I remember.

As well, what you can always do is get a couple of milk jugs and fill em with sand and make weights out of em.

Best of luck! If you have any questions or comments, lemme know.

Cheers and happy training!

This site has a good bodyweight workout that I have tried for the past few days. I think it works well, as it is just short enough to get in with a busy day, but still intense enough to build muscle. Try it out.

Pretty much everything Dadabhoy posted.

For cardio, try resistance sprints, suicides, long-bounds and regular old jogging.
