Default A Few Questions

So I have a few questions about actually learning to play the games itself.
A couple of months ago I posted a question on Yahoo! Answers asking how to learn to play. I was told by a ten-year player to buy a stick and a ball, and practice throwing & catching on the side of the house. Well, I've done that, and *think* I'm pretty decent at it.
I'll be a freshman in High School next year, and was wanting to play for their Lacrosse team, to not only be part of an extra-curricular activity, but to be part of a sport as well. It just, I dunno. Sparks something in me, watching lacrosse.
Anyway, I emailed the coach at the school asking on tips on how to learn to play the game and if there were summer camps in my state that taught you how to play. The only response I ever got was a 'Thank you for your interest, come and see on of our games sometime.'
So I decided to come to a lacrosse forum and read around, and upon not finding any questions similar to mine, to post some of my own. So here they are:

1. Most obviously, what would your suggestion be in learning to play the game? I wouldn't want to show up to tryouts one day and only know how to throw and catch.

2. I know that Men's lacrosse and women's is different. However, I have 3 (girl)friends who are in my same situation, but one of their sisters plays for a team, so they pretty much have a teacher. Would it help to learn the women's basics with them over the summer, or would it mess me up when I learned how to play Men's properly?

3. Is it common for some larger cities (like Louisville, KY, where I am) to offere lacrosse camps during the summer? If so, how would I find them?

Any and all responses would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!

Well first off welcome to the forums and game.

1. In order to learn the rules i would recommend searching google for the basics. Most bigger school programs have a freshman team. Most of the freshman at my school never really played b4. Your first year playing lacrosse ever in HS is a learning year. Now if there are cuts at your school i'd still say look around google and youtube and videogoogle for legit/profesional video's not just some kids making a random video.

2. Your friends are very fortunite to have a "coach" persay. I personally wouldn't follow some of the rules she talks a bout but you can most certainly have a catch with them.

3. Click these below 2 links and look around for a camp. i'm sure Louisville has a bunch of stuff around taht you could go to

i'm willing to bet that if you are on the east coast in a large city, you will have a summer camp near by.

As a freshman coming in, being able to throw and catch with dominant AND off hands will make you a better than average player. Also, having a strong cradle would put you ahead of the pack.

As it was said above, there might be a freshman team or a "b" team on your highschool. My highschool had two squads as well.

Thank you SO much. This is probably the most helpful answer I've received in the past couple of months.
