Default what position to pick

My son is starting his first year as a field player. He was wondering how long it takes to get use to the big stick. He feels awkward with it and questions his defensive skills because of it.He was wondering if he would be better as an attack or middie.

He has played box for 7 years and is a very solid tough d man.

He is big for his age he, turned 10 in Feb ....same size as kids 2 years older than him.

Any ideas on how he can figure out where he belongs in the field?

what i would do if he feel akward with the d stick is cut it down to a goalie shaft length it's still legal for a d man and it still give them the advantage

Cut the shaft so it is as tall as him. Also, If you were to buy a better/lighter shaft that would also help him alot.

Actually, if he has good skills, and because of his size, I would put him at middie.

Because of his size, if he has good form, he can probably shoot pretty fast, and he still gets to play defense.

If he has his heart set on playing d, well, buying a lighter shaft could work, and cutting it down to his height is the other option that might work. However, I would just have him practice more, that's what makes you better.

Increasing strength will help with controlling it the stick.
