Default Wood stick question

Hi there,

I just built my first wooden stick for my son's b-day. I followed finishing instruction as recommended by a "big brand" manufacturer and the stick gets a dent every time it is hit. I have never used a wooden stick so I don't know if this is normal or not. First I thought, "Wow, this isn't right! I should have used a harder finish, but I trust what the manufacturer said. Does anyone know if dents just come with the wooden stick territory?

If you know of a great strong finish please let me know the name and application instructions.

Thanks

I make them myself with a proprietary process. I can say that what wood is it? Did you treat it and for how long? Wood will dent but it only dents up to its core meaning(it wont go through like playdough in a way its making it more compact and tougher.) I hope your not using balsa or pine b/c then theres the problem.
