Default Which is better: open or closed sidewalls?

I recently bought an STX Eclipse, and I don't know if I should string it with open or closed sidewalls. It seems like most college goalies use closed sidewalls. Is one style better than the other?

With 17D it's better with open sidewall, with everything else, do closed.

What type of mesh are you going to be using?

20D, 17D - Open
14D, 12D, 10D - closed

I string my son's Eclipse head with 20D Monster Mesh, sidewall open. As it breaks in, it ends up with a really nice deep pocket, which he likes.

There's no such thing as 20D monster mesh..

I go closed sidewalls on everything.

My mistake , it's 12D, open sidewalls... still produces a good deep pocket, 2 topside shooting strings.

it all depends on what you like, if you like a deep pocket then use open, but if your using 10d,or 12d the pocket might get too deep, and the stick won't throw well
