yes you can absolutely have whip in a stick with no pocket. its because you will tend to throw the ball directly off the shooter which will cause you to feel the ball more. that can also definetely give whip.

as for shaft, i go with either a krypto pro cut dpole or sc21 cut dpole. i just use dpoles because they are stronger than normal shafts or goalie length shafts.
