Default do you guys take the hit to the chest?

I'm new at lacrosse, and my college now have a club lacrosse team. and since I don't like to run I signed up for goalie... now I heard about people going to cardiac arrest getting hit in the chest... do you guys take the shot or duck and let it pass? or should we always try and catch it with the crosse? and not put our chest out for the ball going 90 mph...

You should try to get your stick infront of the ball. You should be able to save it with your stick. But most players at the college level should be able to actually hit their target and not hit you.

Like Dadabhoy said get your stick infront of it. Be vocal with your defense command them to tell them what you want them to do. If you have controll of your defense you will see a significantly less amout of shots.

I do put my body in front of the ball. But it would be better if you tried to save it with the stick first

thanks for the tip. I figure just be a monster with it! I figure the opposing team don't know i just started so I'll learn on the field. hahaha, i'm not the typical goalie they usually see... hahaha, I don't know if I deserve the nickname "kimbo" but that's what i've been called during practice... coach even get on my ass taping my ears! my helmet is lil small... again this is helpful.

i think all the wory of getting killed by a shot to the chest is stupid, yes its a risk, but our coach clocked a shot at 80 and it hit me in the chest, its really no biggie, just get a good chest guard, and although it is important to catch the ball with ur stick, my coach says that getting my body in front is the most important thing... and although it hurts... BAD...at times, i gotta agree with him

the thing is with getting hit and going into cardiac arrest you have to get hit an exact spot near your heart at a certain time when the blood is pumping through. it would constrict the blood flow then you go into cardiac arrest. but its a small chance that it will actually happen.

If you are a goalie then you should not be afraid to get hit with the ball. It is going to happen no matter what you try to do. It is always good to block the shot with your crosse. Dont just jump out of the way and let the goal in. That's a good way to get replaced as goalie. Block the shot anyway that you can.
