Default Goalie Time in Team Trainings

Just wondering how much time you other goalies get in training for goalie training?

Do you get shooting practice every training?

What sort of things do you guys get?

I'm just asking because i'm getting kinda sick of my team and considering leaving if things do not change.

Training for goalies (mainly me, but occationally there is anouther) consists of the following:

- throw the ball for a while
- about 5 - 10 min of cage warm up (shots to the high, mid, low (usually only if the other goalie is around)
- then standing in goalie while we run drills for the field guys (no shots faced)

It's been like this for 3 yrs... the only time i actually face shots is in games...

Am i allowed to be pissed about the lack of goalie training?

If your not getting any practice tell your coach. Remeber you can always walk the line, get a line go top left-top right-top right-hip left-hip left-bottom right-bottom and make sure you step over the line each time you go to one side.

I think you should be. If you don't get shot on, you don't get practice. It also doesn't help the field guys cause their not shooting.

I don't know whats wrong with your coach but you should talk to him.

I've been saying it to him for 3 yrs... i mentioned it at the pre-season team meeting and he brushed over it again... so i'm about |---| this close to leaving the team... He plays middie and i feel that trainings are basically middie training...

I would be pissed too. I would go talk with the coach again. Tell him that you need all the practice you can get. Say that with practice, you will be able to get better and compete. If that does not work, I would go talk wtih your captains and some of your teammates and have them go talk with him.

If none of that works, then you can always do some drills. If there is another goalie on the team, you both can warm each other up. If there are players waiting for their turn, you can always have them take some shots on you. If you have an assistan coach, you can get him to take shots on you.

Good luck!

Its very small time here, we are lucky if we get 10+ people to a training let alone a game. No assistant coaches, and goalies are ment to be in the field drills to direct d players - so we don't get jack all time to do anything individually. At the moment the other goalie is away until mid-season (living in a different city) so it's just me...

We usually get called back into the main practice after they have finished running their warm up drills (line drills, 4 corner drills,) and usually place a cone next to us (which i've kicked away and told them to f!@k off - didn't go down well).

Glad to hear i'm not just making something out of nothing... I think i will threaten to leave if i don't start getting more practice time.

3 Practices down and no training...

Today for the first time one of the guys offered to warm me up, after 2 shots he got told to go work with a newbie and i didn't need to be warmed up...

So i had the joy of calling ball position all practice... joy... just what i signed up for...

You should talk to the coach or ask one of your friends that plays to take shots. I had to do that and it's not that fun. If you actually play and not just call out positions then you can get better.
