Default Hand Drills

I was thinking about drills for reaction and awareness when i was reply to anouther tread, and it got me thinking about the differnaces between me and the other goalie on my team.

He's never played anything like baseball catcher/criket wicket keaper/etc... and he's not very good with his hands inclose.

I've been getting him to do a few drills that i was made to do as a catcher and it's helped alot with his stick movement around his body, and his placement of his hands around his body area...

1) Bouncing...

it's simple, get a tennis ball and bounce it on the top of your right hand then palm of right then top of left hand then palm of left hand and repeat... eventually you will be able to not look at your hands and still do this.

you can then mix it up and try something like: top left, palm right, top right, palm left...

2) Dropping...

Hold a ball in your hand at about shoulder height with a slight bend in your elbow, then drop the ball, move your hand in a circle around the ball (vertical circle) and then grab it. You more natural hand will be alot lot lot better... This will work on geting nice quick hands.

If you think thats all crap let me know.. i'd like to know your thoughts on it.

If possible, get a reaction ball. Have your goalie stand a few feet away from you. The goalie will only use one hand in this drill. You bounce the ball towards the goalie. He steps towards the ball and catches the ball with one hand. Do 20 or so for each hand. Every bounce will be different so he will need to work hard for each one.

Juggle that is a great way to improve hand-eye coordination.

Also you can do what Dadabhoy said. But instead you first catch it with 5 fingers then after a while go to 4 fingers, 3 fingers, 2 fingers. Then you can switch hands, I did it at a camp once its harder then it sounds.
