the best way to get over the fear of the ball is to get hit.....then once you know that it will hurt for 5 sec at max, you just get over it.

my coach used to make me drop my stick and put my hand behind my back then shoot lightly. using your body to make saves proves that it wont hurt as bad as you think. i agree with attacking the ball, too.
probably practice the motions to get the mechanic on downlows better. thats about all you can do.

Get angry, and get the adrenaline flowing. Makes the shots feel like nothing.

Im a new goalie to but im not scared of the ball. today my brother shot on me with his D-pole and i was in the cage, saving shots with a brine F-15 attack stick and no padding or helmet, anyway, if you flinch i would suggest you get the most padding you can get including shin gaurds, you end up looking a little bit hulky but at least your not as scared to get hit. also have your friends shoot on you with tennis balls, you will get used to the image of a ball coming so you will be less scared, do it for a week and you should be ~70% less flinchy. last technique is do what i did today, no gear just an attack stick. youll get used to getting hit and it'll become 2nd nature, good luck.

just get pumped up, it's a great feeling when you make a big save, even if the ball it's you on a fast shot
