Question Need some help

Hey everyone,

I'm the backup goalie on my Varsity High School team and its my first year playing. I have the basics down aside from stopping ground shots and throwing the ball long distances (I'm a hockey goalie, so I know my angles). I was just wondering if anyone can give me any tips about how to stop ground shots and how to make long passes. My mesh just ripped, so I got some harder mesh in my head now and I need another shooting string, but I am never 100% accurate with my throws.

Anything would help

Thanks!

I would recommend getting out on a wall and throwing the ball around. I know there was a thread on goalie drills. Let me find it.

When saving a bounce shot make sure you STEP TO THE BOUNCE, don't sit back and try to guess the bounce cause every shot bounces different. Always practice, it is all about repetition. A drill I do to warm up but you could do to get the motion down is just go down a line and make each kind of save over and over again and just keep doing a lap there and back with every save. Good Luck!

hey guys, thanks!

By the way, in my first lacrosse game, I saved 50% of the shots (2 shots, 1 save, 1 goal). Is that good? What is an average save percentage?

50% is pretty good for a highschool level goalie. But since you only have 2 shots that doesnt show much. a 15 shot game would show more or less your likely %

Strong D! But yeah, as said before, post up some games from before or post up some later games. That will help. Goalies in the NCAA have a .500-.700 average (The Lacrosse Equipment Superstore).
If you are playing NLL, they are near .700 (NLL.com -- Official Website of the National Lacrosse League - Stats).

what i like to do is take an old beat up shaft w/out the head on it and have someone throw tennis ball. It really helped me improve my stick skills and it makes me step to the ball! it's pretty fun too!
