What are some good tips to learning to handle the length of the d-pole as opposed to the short?
It's my first year playing, and I'm aware that my coach ultimately decides where I'm placed, but what would some tips be to get used to the length?
There's nothing magic about it. It's all about practice, practice, practice. Hit the wall, go jogging with your stick. The more you use it, the more you'll get used to it, there aren't any tricks to making you better.
hold the stick like it's a short pole when catching, it makes things easier. also, when in whatever formation you do, keep your stick up and moving, this is good for d and builds strength and muscle memory to handle that beast
Choke up on your stick while you catch. It will help you in the long run. Hit the wall, because throwing and catching with both hands is extremely important. Practice switching hands as well, making it a smooth motion. Getting used tothe length involves being comfortable, so I suggest play with it as much as possible, and doing some fround ball drills is a good way to get used the length.
