Default size or speed?

im training for lacrosse which im playing for my first time this year. im very dedicated to working out and enjoy it so thats not a problem at all. what i want to know is what is more important to the sport of lacrosse.

i weigh 145 roughly and im about 5'11". ive been considering trying to put on weight but then i feel i would lose speed and it seems all coaches care about is speed.

so is it better to have nice strength and speed or be bigger, as in put on weight and size?

It would depend on what position you want to play. If you are looking at middie, then go for speed. If you are looking at defense, go for size. If you are going for goalie, I would probably choose a mix of speed and size. Attack, I would choose someone with speed.

Whatever you choose, you gotta also have good stick skills.

yeah its gonna be middie or attack. i guess most likely attack my friend thinks cuz im new and dont have as good of stick skills unless i catch on fast.

it would be nice to not have to put on weight cuz my metabolism just wont allow it hah

any suggections on how to improve stick skills?

practice... lol bet you haven't heard that one before. Really, play catch with your friend allll the time, or wall ball. Cradle your stick constantly try running and then shooting at a tree or something. start trying to do jump shots. lost of stuff you can do, good luck

Well I play defense. and, im big. And i must say, not having speed, SUCKS! U want both actually when it comes to lacrosse.
If u play defense and have both, u wuld be a beast. Look at Polanco and Passavia, they're huge and fast.

But anyway over all you want to be big, but also fast. And that goes for every position.
(You dont need fat weight, thats bad for you, just get a lot of muscle, and you'll be fine)

Are you HS?

I play defense and I'm pretty small. Last season I was like 132, but I'm up to like 138 since I've started lifting. I'm a good sprinter. Being quick is important for defense too, our team always got scored on fastbreaks because all the defense except me were slow and lazy.

yeah im a junior in highschool.

im kinda screwed for practice right now i guess until winter league cuz of snow. ill have to try and find a place inside or maybe just mess around in my garage and try and get used to the whole ball and stick concept and what i can do with it.

right now my 40 time is 5.0 flat but i think with some adjustments technique wise i can bring it down. i want like a 4.7 if possible.

Pfft snow doesnt mean nething.
I practice in snow all the time. Although it isnt smart haha. Find a tennis wall, or sumthin. Or even a chain fence.
Run while craddling. Find a friend. Even if you're not running, cradle. Switch hands. Practice dodges. Its really easy to practice, people just dont think.

Size is nice to have, but you can add size, you can't add speed. Natural speed is a great gift that can't be taught, learned, or improved much.

i am 6' and around 185.. and i play middie
but the way i see it.. try and be both speedy and bigger.
i am not the fastest kid on my team but i am pretty quick and size wise.. its always nice to be a little bigger and get that edge on other middies and players lol
so my guess is put on some weight but also you could just be a quicker smaller middie.. which would be kinda good.. but mainly up to you bro
