You should theoretically be able to throw faster with a long stick than a short stick. You are moving the sticks the same number of degrees, the same angle, but because the Radius of your arc is so much longer, the Long stick has to move faster than the short stick. The problem is that it is harder to throw well with the long stick, because of its bulk.
Theoretically, though, the long stick will get more distance, and more speed.
