I can understand regulating what is posted on a site, especially when a company has put its name out there to sponsor said forum. That company has now assumed a risk associated with whatever is posted on that forum.

From what I've seen, the majority of the folks over there take their roles as moderators/administrators serious, and see themselves as community leaders. The issue is probably biggest with a small, select few who act as if, due to their position, they are able to make snap judgements and dole out punishments for things that are at best borderline infractions, without even acknowledging the people they warn when asked why the strong response to something so seemingly small.

Let me quantify this by saying that I am not banned from TLF, and frequently use the trading forums. I have received 1 alert for a sig line infraction, and 1 9 point warning. My requests for clarification of exactly why it was deemed a 9 point infraction instead of what I thought at most would have been in the 1 point category went completely ignored by the issueing mod.

I'm all for controlled, regulated forums, as long as the moderation doesn't exceed the ability to have good, plentiful conversation, and doesn't make people afraid to post because they are unsure of what is allowable language.
