Knighthawks' Mat MacLeod Named to All-Canadian Second Team
Rochester Knighthawks forward Mat MacLeod was named to the All-Canadian Second Team this week as Junior "A" lacrosse named its all-star teams. MacLeod led the Orangeville Northmen with 67 points (37+30) in 21 games, which was good enough for eighth in the Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior "A" circuit.
MacLeod is currently playing for the Minto Cup, which is awarded annually to the best junior men's lacrosse team of Canada. The Northmen have a bye into the championship game after finishing the four-team round-robin tournament with a 3-0 record. In the three games, MacLeod scored three goals, one of those a game-winner, and collected five assists. Orangeville will play the winner of Calgary and Victoria on Saturday, August 30th for the Minto Cup.
In 2008, the Orangeville native scored seven goals and chipped in seven assists in 11 games in his rookie season in the National Lacrosse League. During the season, he was named the NLL Rookie of the Week for Week 15 after recording two goals and one assist in the Knighthawks' 20-12 win over the Philadelphia Wings on March 29th.
He was the Knighthawks' first-round selection (eighth overall) in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft.
