Hamley reunited with McMahon in Colorado
DENVER - Former National Lacrosse League coach of the year Bob Hamley will reunite with a friend and colleague this season on the Colorado Mammoth coaching staff.
The Mammoth has named Hamley, who most recently was head coach and general manager of the Arizona Sting, an assistant coach on head coach Bob McMahon's staff for the 2008 season.
Hamley began coaching in the Ontario Lacrosse Association for the Kitchener-Waterloo Braves, following a four-season playing career with the Buffalo Bandits during which he won two championships. He then was named an assistant coach to McMahon with the NLL's Albany Attack, and helped lead the team to the 2002 championship game.
In September 2002 Hamley was named head coach and general manager of the Columbus Landsharks, who move to Arizona following the 2003 season. Hamley hired McMahon, his boss in Albany, to be an assistant coach of the Sting.
Hamley led the Sting to three West Division title games and two league championship games. He was given the 2005 Les Bartley Award as NLL coach of the year, and the next day was also named general manager of the year, becoming the first person in league history to win both awards for the same season.
"Bringing in Bob Hamley is an addition we think fits the team well and will help the chemistry between both players and coaches," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "Hamley and McMahon have brought success to their teams in the past and we look forward to watching them work together again."
New staff
The Mammoth also announced that Joel Rather has been named the team's strength and conditioning coach, Ian Abeyta has been named assistant strength and conditioning coach, and Dr. Ken Szarka is the team's new performance coach.
