If you are playing the womens game, I doubt you can check the attacker. I know there is no contact on player. If you are playing the mens game, then yes you can come out and check a player as long as he is withing range of the ball or has the ball.
You could PM Goalie9 as she may be able to help if she still comes on. Or if that does not work, you can ask your coach or a ref.
