Default Towson Extends Tony Seaman's Contract Through 2010

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University has extended the contract of head men's lacrosse coach Tony Seaman through the 2010 season, it has been announced by Director of Athletics Mike Hermann.

"Towson is fortunate to have one of the most successful college lacrosse coaches in the country directing its program," Hermann said of the Tigers' coach. "Tony has assembled a top notch staff and has led our program to success on the field during his nine years heading our program."

Entering his tenth season as the Tigers' coach, Seaman has led the program to a 77-56 record and four conference championships. After capturing the 2001 America East championship and advancing to the NCAA semi-finals, he led the Tigers to three consecutive Colonial Athletic Association titles that earned Towson automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament. Seaman coached the Tigers to the first round of the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team last year.

"To be able to continue my tenure at Towson University as the Head Lacrosse Coach is both a privilege and a challenge that I welcome with open arms," Seaman said. "President Robert Caret and Athletic Director Mike Hermann have a long-range vision for Towson Athletics that has our lacrosse program playing a key role, and I am very excited to play a part in making that vision a reality."

Seaman has been selected as Coach of the Year in both the America East Conference (2001) and the Colonial Athletic Association (2003, 2004). He was named as Towson University's Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2004.

Seaman, who is in his 27th season as a college head coach, has compiled a career record of 241-129, which ranks seventh among active Division I coaches.

"The student-athletes in the men's lacrosse program have succeeded academically, served in the community and have represented the University well," Hermann said. "Plus, Tony's experience and leadership is felt, not only in the lacrosse program, but throughout our department."

The Tigers, who posted a 9-7 record last year, will begin their 50th year of college lacrosse on February 23 when they host Loyola College at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
