Tickets Already Available for '08 Men's Championships
Tickets for the 2008 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships at Gillette Stadium are on sale now as the three-day event comes to New England for the first time May 24-26.
Harvard and the Eastern College Athletic Conference will serve as co-hosts of the event, which will crown champions in all three NCAA divisions over the course of Memorial Day weekend. Tickets are available as three-day passes, which admit holders to the Division I semifinal games May 24, the Divisions II and III championship games May 25, and the Division I championship game May 26.
"We are excited to host the NCAA Lacrosse Championships at Gillette Stadium in 2008," said Robert Kraft, Chairman and CEO of the New England Patriots and New England Revolution and owner and operator of Gillette Stadium. "Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the NCAA and in New England, and we're excited to take the event to the next level."
Since being awarded the event in 2005, the Boston Local Organizing Committee - which includes representatives from Harvard, the ECAC, Gillette Stadium, the Massachusetts Sports Partnership, and the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau - has worked diligently to make the 2008 championships a success for the participating schools and the tens of thousands of spectators expected to attend. Out-of-town visitors will take advantage of train service, which will shuttle ticket holders from downtown Boston to Gillette Stadium throughout the three-day weekend, while parking at the stadium will be included in the price of tickets.
The event will mark the first NCAA men's lacrosse championship to be decided in New England since 1985, when the Division II title was awarded in Springfield, Mass. The Division I championship was last decided in New England in 1976, when Brown hosted the event in Providence, R.I.
Harvard, meanwhile, is well versed in hosting successful NCAA championships as the university most recently served as co-host of the 2006 NCAA Women's Final Four at the TD Banknorth Garden. The state of Massachusetts has also been home to a number of NCAA championships in recent years, including the 2006 Division I Women's Lacrosse Championships, the 1998 and 2004 Frozen Four tournaments, and the 2005 men's basketball first and second rounds.
Ticket packages are available through Ticketmaster, while complete information on the 2008 championships is available at lax2008.com.
